David is an actor, musician, comedian and writer – and back end of the duo Doggett & Ephgrave.
His material featured in the Daily Telegraph’s 20 Funniest One-liners of the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe and Comedy Central’s 35 Funniest Jokes of the Year (2017), plus i Newspaper’s 50 Best Jokes, The Scotsman’s 40 Best Jokes and Edinburgh Evening News’ 40 Funniest One-Liners of 2018 Edinburgh Fringe lists.
David’s acting credits include portraying John Lennon and Paul McCartney in the No. 1 UK tour of The Roy Orbison Story, Buddy Holly in numerous UK/Ireland tours of Buddy Holly and the Cricketers, and Richard in the West End production of Dreamboats and Petticoats.
Credits with D&E include: eleven seasons with The Comedy Project at the Soho Theatre, various stand-up shows on the Edinburgh, Brighton, Camden and Leicester Fringes, plus Mostly Comedy, their twelve-year-old comedy club in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. A notable career highlight was performing an episode of their sitcom Nick & Joe at The Soho Theatre, alongside a cast that included Michael Barrymore & Norman Lovett (Holly in Red Dwarf).
David took his first solo stand-up show, ‘…and Ephgrave’, to the 2015 Brighton and Camden Fringe Festivals, his second, Mostly David Ephgrave, to Brighton and Edinburgh in 2016, his third and fourth, Now Who’s a Comedian? and ‘David Ephgrave: My Part in His Downfall’, to Edinburgh in 2017 & 2018 – and will take his fifth, Good Grief, to Edinburgh in 2021 (COVID-19 depending).
He also co-hosts the More Than Mostly Comedy Podcast, in which he interviews many of the acts that play Mostly Comedy; previous guests include Phill Jupitus, Paul Daniels, Katherine Ryan, Rory Bremner, Jan Ravens and Arthur Smith.
In a former life, he fronted the rock band Big Day Out, who supported Slade, The Troggs, Kula Shaker and The Supernaturals. He’s also kept a regular blog for six years…but nobody’s perfect.
